As told to Michelle Hamer

Melbourne fashion designer Amy McLellan, founder of the Ammo label, has run her clothing business for 10 years. Ammo is known for its asymmetrical and geometric lines and contemporary feminine style. Ms McLellan credits her late grandmother with igniting her passion for fashion.1. Zindzi, McLellan's daughter with musician Grantham Clayford. Her African name means "looking to the future" and reflects Grantham's South African heritage. She is a happy, easygoing little girl. She comes in to work with me for two or three days a week.2. Ruth Allen glass sculptures. These are gorgeous. Grantham bought one for me for my birthday and we bought the second together from Skepsi On Swanston. They complement the Aboriginal art we like to collect.3. Richard Schultz chairs. We have two pairs. They are made from beautiful aniline leather. They are weathered and natural and make ideal occasional chairs.4. Minnie the airedale terrier. We have two airedales but Minnie is better behaved. We've had her for about five years and got her as a friend for Leroy, our older dog. When they're together they behave like a pair of crazy teenagers. Minnie likes to lie around, so Zindzi can pat her.5. Molly Pwerle painting. The first piece of Aboriginal art we bought was a Minnie Pwerle painting from her Melon Dreaming series. Our latest piece is by her sister, Molly Pwerle. It's my new love because it's new and fresh and different.8. Gardening DVDs. We have moved to a property in Park Orchards and are planning to redesign the front garden, so we're watching Around the World in Eighty Gardens, presented by Monty Don. It's a bit nanna-ish and daggy, but we love it.9. Elke Kramer bracelet. I bought this for myself at Glitzern in Crossley Street in the city. They have great costume jewellery. It's a big, chunky, coral-coloured bracelet and I love it.10. Preston Zly shoes. I've collaborated with Preston Zly on several shows and we like to swap clothes and shoes. I have about 15 or 20 pairs of the handmade leather shoes and boots. They have all sorts of different designs. One of my favourite pairs has feral cat fur on them.
